Our "Regular" Saturday Fun

Here's our 'normal' Saturday since we have been out here... seems like we always find ourselves in Carbondale (Callie likes the long, flat, running paths, and I like the mountain bike trail) for the day. Its only about 20 miles from New Castle.
Kenya is already pulling Callie, which she probably did for the next 9.1 miles of their run. This is the Red Hill Mountain Bike Trails. It seems to be the premier mountain biking location in our area, I've learned to like... and to dislike this trail for many reasons. There are a ton of tough uphill rock steps and gardens, and lots of fun drops coming back downhill.
Because I was late to meet Callie from her run I tried to cut through the forest, I ended up with tires full of Cactus (luckily no flat tire), I wasn't up for taking photos at that point.
This is the roaring fork river, its awesome. Blue ribbon trout waters, even though I only caught 1 trout, it's great. Callie can usually find a nice place to get sunburned and read her book. The dog just runs back and forth between us. She goes nuts.

Back in Carbondale we hung out at the Blue, Brews, and Barbecues Festival. Kenya was lucky, all of the chef's were happy to 'toss her a bone'.The drive home is always spectacular as well. The mountain in the rear view mirror is Mt. Sopris (12,000+ ft.) and the valley ahead is Glenwood and New Castle. We miss ya all and hope you can join us in a fun filled Saturday soon! I'm sure Callie and Kenya wouldn't make you run 9 miles, and I will not make you go on the mountain bike trail. But there are plenty of brews and barbecues to go around! Oh and happy Birthday to Callie today!

"Kenya"

Here she is... from what we've gathered, she is a yellow lab mixed with something. It was listed at a lab/greyhound but nobody seems to agree on that. None-the-less she does slightly resemble a tiger, zebra, leopard, ect... so this is why we named her Kenya.
They think she is just about 1 year old, could be more or less. So far she has been very gentle, very in to playing with other dogs, and very willing to approach people. We've messed with her paws, teeth, gave her a bath, and she hasn't seemed bothered a bit! She does whine a little bit, everytime someone walks by without acknowledging her, or when we don't let her run to another dog.
She hasn't jumped up on anyone yet, but she does kinda seem like a master of getting people to give her food. She was probably on the run, lost, or mistreated for a bit.
Thats it for now! Comment on what ya think of our new pup!

Pics of our Townhome!

Here's some photos of our Towhome. I'll give ya a few bearings so you can kind of understand which way we're looking.

The Garage faces South to Southeast into the "Grand Hogback" mountain range.

The backyard and patio face northward into the Flattops Wilderness area. Basically everythingaround us is part of the White River National Forest. That makes things pretty fun for
us as wedon't have to worry too much about trespassing!

Our fence is prime for a puppy... we're going to
give ourselves a little time to settle in, and then
we'll be on a mission for a puppy.

The inside is set up pretty wide-open.
The kitchen opens up to the living/dining area. On one side is our bedroom
connected to a bathroom.
And of the other side is a bathroom, closet, and guest bedroom.
Enjoy the photos, and we could use
some suggestions on our interior
decorating! Any of you who like to
work on projects, we'll be open to
starting some of those in the future as well! See Ya!
Sorry for the messy blog this program gives you no idea what it will look like when you post to the web :(

Our Big Move to Colorado!

Well... Here we are on our way through Nebraska. What a drive and what a load! We were fairly lucky to have a smooth drive, the only hitch was Callie's car blowing a radiator hose near Denver. The rest of the drive is great, from Denver to New Castle the scenery is spectacular. It makes for a very quick 2 1/2 hours through the mountains. The 12 hours before that... hmmm... not much to say about that part!

If you drive 'quick' you'll make it from MN to our house in about 14-16 hours. See ya soon!

We were very kindly welcomed to New Castle the first evening. Not very often you can be offered free electricity with the purchase of a new townhome. We figured we got the special treatment because we are from Minnesota.

The townhome is nice, it has two full bathrooms and two bedrooms. It just one floor and has a very small yard. Stay tuned for a later blog and we'll put up some detailed photos of our place!
Moving on...
After a long day of unpacking we decided to do some exploring of our neighborhood. It didn't take long to find out we'll either be walking up... or walking down, not much level ground to be found here. Only a few blocks from our towhome are a few nice trails that lead right up into the mountains. Even though the going was tough at times, everyone stuck it out and had a good time!

We are both very thankful for all of the spectacular help we had during our move, thanks Bob, Cindy, and Hilary for helping out SOOOOOO much!

After Mom and Dad Urban arrived we put in some good hours of unpacking the second load (also a very big THANKS to the Urbans for all the help!) we decided to go have some fun. We went to the Glenwood Springs (9 miles East) Adventure Park for some fun activities! These photos are just a couple of the many things you can do up on the mountain.

The roller coaster actually winds down the mountain, Callie thought it was a "little kids' dinky roller coaster" but when Callie and Bob finished the ride, they were a bit stunned at the intense ride they had endured... good times... good times.

After a sad goodbye to the Gospeters (thanks AGAIN Bob and Cindy) early in the morning, we put in more time organizing and unpacking. After that we set out to explore more of our area... I'll let the pictures do more of the talking this time...

Critters in our plants... can you find him?

.............................................View up Castle Valley Northwest of town.

............This is Harvey Gap, about 8 miles to the West. Good for swimming and fishing!

Looking North over New Castle...
..............................Looking Southeast over the 'original' New Castle...
...................................................................................Looking at accomplished hikers of Mt. Majores!

The next day we went to Aspen and here's what we found!

This is Maroon Lake looking up to the Maroon Bells Peaks and Wilderness. The peak is over 14,000 ft. high.

We can't wait to explore more of this area, especially in the winter! We'll be sure to be at the Winter X Games this year watching Callie's favorite boarder, Shaun White.
Here's some more photos of the Maroon Bells Wilderness....

And during the last day with our visitors, some took on the task of overcoming deeply rooted fears of heights.... .... .. . .. . "Hanging Lake" of Glenwood Canyon. This short, but steep hike leads up to a very cool area in the canyon... check it out.

We'll let Denise and Hilary add comments about this hike, I don't think they will be forgetting it any time soon!

We will try our best to update the blog once and awhile... we'll also try to keep them a bit more brief than this one...

We really had a great time with everyone and we'll miss you tons, hopefully all the hiking/biking doesn't keep ya away!!!! We don't mean any harm! Thanks again for help with the move.

Happy Trails for now ~

~ Andrew & Callie
